There’s lots of tips and guides currently available to help you get that traditional appearance in your home, so now really is an excellent time to think about getting that traditional look you’ve always wanted from your windows.
Real timber windows are often the first thing people associate with a ‘vintage’ home. The traditional material for windows for centuries, timber has a long and illustrious history in window construction. With an estimated lifespan of 60 years (and longer), great thermal efficiency, and great soundproofing qualities, new, real timber windows are a tried and tested way to get the authentic look of vintage windows into your property.
Real timber sash windows: the authentic technology and look of vintage windows
Often found in Georgian and Victorian properties, modern timber sash windows are perfect if you want to get the authentic look of vintage windows and their technology; with all the added thermal benefits of modern manufacture and design.
The earliest surviving examples of sash windows date from the 1670s, where they were used in many stately homes, such as Ham House. The technology they employ is relatively simple. Sitting in separate grooves in the side jambs, an upper and lower sash slide vertically to open or close. This action is particularly useful in summer months when the top and bottom sash can be opened in equal amounts; allowing warm air at the top of the room to leave, whilst drawing cooler air outside in through the bottom.
All of our timber sash windows also come with an optional 30 year guarantee and have a minimum estimated service life of 60 years, giving you great peace of mind when it comes to the quality of your product.
