One particular public sector installation we carried out was at Mayday Hospital in Croydon. At the Mayday Hospital (also known as the Croydon University Hospital) we recently installed a new set of ‘unbreakable’ windows, to improve security.
The project itself
Mayday Hospital is based on a 19-acre site in South London and has 45 beds, along with a 24 hour Accident and Emergency department. The hospital has a long history of providing healthcare to the local community, and the earliest buildings on the site date from 1885. The hospital was looking to improve its overall security and fire protection of its windows and glazing so we recommended the installation of ‘unbreakable’ glass windows.
Toughened glazing
These ‘unbreakable’ glass windows utilise toughened glazing that has been proven to be shatter resistant. This glazing has a layer of clear plastic film sandwiched between two panes of glass to provide an enhanced resistance to shattering.
‘Unbreakable’ windows
This type of window is perfect for use in high-traffic areas and for applications where the glazing could be subjected to repeated blows or knocks. ‘Unbreakable’ windows are also perfect for increasing the security of a space, with the glazing being shatter resistance and resistant to falling apart if eventually broken.
